MT. PARAN MISSION TEAM

The Mount Paran team led by Renay Hawkins really brought a smile and joy to the various villages. This team really proves that short term missions can be fun. Many prayers of thanksgiving will be offered to God for many months to come. Renay, Tina and Carla far exceeded our expectations with the beanie babies. Joyce did an excellent job of explaining the importance of good hygiene. Lee, Maurice, Kelsey, Annie, Nicole, Matt and Niki as well as the rest of the team had a blast with the sports outreach.

The Mt. Paran mission team also participated in the dedication of the Vocational School on July 2, 2007. The picture below shows the first three girls of the vocational school. They were given bicycles to get them to and from school until the building is complete.

Below, Joyce Geddie, a nurse, is teaching King how to read people's blood pressure.

THE YING FARM

The Ying Farm (Ying Village) continues to be a source of help to the widows and orphans. We have done our corn distributions for this season. Below workers (103 members of Sanga, Cheshegu and Maudua Villages – men, women and children) are seen at the Ying Farm planting peanuts for next year and working together in the spirit of unity. Last year we planted corn so we are rotating our crops to obtain a greater yield.

The next picture shows King loading the bountiful harvest for storage and distribution. Praise the LORD for His faithfulness!

DISCIPLESHIP CONTINUES

This young man on my right (next page) has just received Christ as his Lord and Savior in the Chapel at Bethany Village. Please pray for him to stand firm in the faith. His name is Hamid. Also, pray for Pastor Stephen on my left as he continues to evangelize his people.

THE NEW EYE CLINIC

Earlier this year, $25,000 worth of eye care equipment was shipped to Bethany Village to establish an eye clinic similar to the dental clinic. In early August, a team led by Dr. Jim Chamberlain, a pastor at ChristWalk church and a practicing optometrist, arrived at Bethany Village to establish the eye clinic. Below is a picture of Dr. Jim, King and his staff unpacking the eye care equipment.

The first goal for the eye clinic is to be able to dispense glasses to those who cannot see well. The picture below shows part of the eyeglass inventory provided by Lions clubs. An auto refractor connected to a computer is used to find the prescription for each patient. The computer then tells where to find the correct eyeglasses in the inventory. Below is a picture of King using the auto refractor to read a patient’s prescription. Great progress was made in setting up the clinic but more remains to be done.

The team from ChristWalk also visited orphanages and taught in the Vocational School. Below is a picture of Bettie Lodge teaching the girls in the Vocational School to knit. They learned quickly and are beginning to use this new skill to earn support.
