Chief begins discipleship

If you would recall, in our newsletter of December 2007, we featured the story of a chief receiveing Jesus Christ as his savior. We revisited him to confirm that he has not changed his mind concerning this all important decision he had made in the presence of many witnesses. Indeed he reconfirmed his decision. We have started discipleing him in fulfillment of Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:18-20(popularly called the Great Commission). We brought him to Bethany village alone, so as to escape all the distractions of palace life. We went over the salvation scriptures to give him a full assurance of his new life in Jesus Christ.

We have set these discipleship meetings to continue at regular intervals. Those of you who may not know, a chief does not leave his palace to go sit in someone else’s residence to be discipled one on one. The best one could hope for is to be allowed to come do the discipleing at the palace, this is God at work. Please pray with us for favor to continue is vital work.

Most sports cars are small, high performance and highly manuvearable. This description fits the team of 6 short term missionaries from Washington State. It comprised three women and three men: Dana, Shannon and Gina, Brian, Justin and Paul. They are a missionaries dream team, willing to do whatever is needed with a smile, flexible is the word. The men worked on our farm equipments, vans, construction and painting. The women taught at the vocational school and Sanga village women day school. Both men and women were deeply involved with the discipleship program in the villages. This team was led by Brian and Dana Cummings, onetime missionaries here in Ghana for four years. Their children, Devin, Joel and Hadas also served with them here in Ghana, we really appreciate their great help.

A Chief has entered the Kingdom

Standing before a great cloud of witnesses, both seen and unseen the chief of the village of (can not mention the village) boldly prayed to accept Jesus Christ of Nazareth as his savior. O God your throne is established in justice, You rule and reign in the affairs of men. Now that this chief has accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, we now have to disciple him to also accept Jesus Christ as his Lord. This involves teaching him the commandments of God, so that he will walk in the Way of the Lord not in the way of his ancestors as he now does. We need wisdom from God to effectively perform this crucial task!

Recent Floods

Yes indeed the rain storms has being fierce, and all rivers as we are told has flooded their banks. Both the President and his vice has come to the Northern part of Ghana- where we live- to see firsthand the severity of the floods. The rains came late this year, but when they came it was with a vengence. The earlier drought destroyed the early crops and the late floods are destroying the late crops. God being soo good to us we have harvested our 13acres of peanut, dried them and is now in storage. Hallelujah!!! Our rice farm is doing fine, since rice can handle floods. Due to the earlier drought and late floods, food will be very scarce this dry season, it is at that time that we will distribute our farm produce to the widows and orphans. God knows how to provide for His children in times of difficulty. Trust Him, He will never fail you!!!

Baby Boy

A handsome baby boy was born to Pastor Zak and his wife Hannah on Monday. The delivery was quick and smooth as we prayed for, she went to the hospital and in about 6 hours she was back with a quiet gentle baby. As of now he will have no name until a week from the day on which he was born. The baby will be outdoored this coming Monday and that is when his name will be officially announced. watchout for our next newsletter his picture will be included. We are grateful to our Lord for His many mercies toward us! Rejoice with us.

Sooo many things has happened since our last update. Dr. Jim Chamberlain led a team of short term missionaries to open a new eyeclinic at Bethany Village. This eye clinic is one of only two in the city, and the best equip. Three young men plus myself ( not quiet as young) were trained to use an auto refractor to dispense eye glasses. This is the first of it’s kind that lay people are trained to provide such a vital service in the field, we have over 5,000 pair of glasses in our inventory. According to UN statistics, Ghana is on of the leading countries with eye problems, so this service is invaluable to the natives. We are praying and hopeing to build an eye clinic next to the dental clinic. Come and see what God is doing!

Frank and Suzannah Barbian in Ghana

Seven years ago, God spoke strongly into Suzannah’s spirit to go to Africa. The call was soo clear she wrote it down in her journal, well the demands of normal life drew her attention for sometime. A year ago the Lord revisited His call for her to go serve Him in Africa, about the sametime we were visiting their church, (Jesus our Shephard) in Atlanta. Unknown to us what God has being telling them, we invited them to come see what the Lord was doing in Ghana.

God provided the time and finances, and Suzannah and her husband Frank are now in the final week of a three week visit to Tamale, Ghana. Frank has being working diligently with our village discipleship program in four villages. Suzannah has being laboring in Sanga village, working with the women. She is teaching them english, health, HIV/AIDS, and also helped with the village day care center. May the Lord establish the work of their hands, Amen.

UPDATE ON ISSAHAKU (SNAKE BITE VICTIM)

We want to give thanks to everybody who has been praying for Issahaku. The bleeding has stopped and a few blisters appeared on the skin and they are not gone yet. His condition has improved sufficiently for the doctor to approve releasing him from the hospital.

His father, Alhassan, came to Bethany Village to express his gratefulness to all those who are praying for his son. His plan is to take Issahaku back to his village because he wants the members of his village to see the power of God in that he was carried out of the village but he will walk back on his own two feet. WHAT A TESTIMONY TO CHRIST! We will visit them on Sunday and send another update at that time. Please continue to pray as he is not completely out of the woods but most especially for him to see the hand of God and to give his life to Christ.

He Needs a Miracle, Now!

6:00 A.M. we were awaken by three men standing at the door. One of them had been bitten by a viper three days earlier. They have just managed to bring him from the interior to us. The father of the victim had accepted Christ at the Dental Clinic about a year ago. His conversion was so radical that his two wives and all his children except his eldest son had followed his example to become Christians. Last Sunday, while the family was at church the oldest son who had refused to become a Christians had gone to work on the farm. He was bitten by a viper. The father did not know what to do but to pray for him and remove him from their remote village to us. In his words, “You are my everything so I had to bring my child to you. At this point he is beginning to bleed through the nose and the pores of his skin.” After prayers we rushed him to the local hospital where he remains admitted. Please pray that he will live so that his father who was the first christian in the whole village to become a Christian will not be ridiculed because of his new found God, (Jesus Christ). Please pray!

PAM’S COTTAGE

Below is a picture of Pam’s Cottage recently constructed in memory of Pam Pendle, daughter of Bill & Ramona Pendle. Ironically, Pam was also killed in an auto accident. Pam’s Cottage was dedicated by Pastor Max Wilkins.
